Services > Methods of Laparoscopic repair of hernias

There is two types of laparoscopic Hernia repair:

  1. The Transabdominal Preperitoneal repair (TAPP)

In this surgical repair, the peritoneal cavity is entered, the peritoneum is dissected from the myopectineal orifice, a mesh prosthesis is secured and the peritoneal defect is closed.

  2. The Totally ExtraPeritoneal repair (TEP)

This repair maintains peritoneal integrity, eliminating risks while allowing direct visualization of the groin anatomy, which is critical for a successful repair. TEP hernia repair follows the basic principles of the open preperitoneal giant mesh repair. The mesh is placed in the retroperitoneal space, but the space is accessed without violating the abdominal cavity.
