EndoVenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) – The Solution You’ve Been Looking For!
October 26, 2010

Varicose veins are a very common problem, generally appearing as twisting, bulging rope-like cords on the legs, anywhere from the groin to ankle. While many people have heard of varicose veins, very few truly understand their underlying cause, and the potential they have for developing into a serious medical issue.

Varicose veins affect an estimated 40% of women and 25% of men.  Factors leading to varicose veins include heredity, gender, pregnancy, and age. Some factors may speed up the development of this disease and make the veins worse, including prolonged standing, obesity, hormone levels, and physical trauma.

In addition to the visual appearance, many patients may experience one or more leg symptoms, including an aching or cramping feeling, heaviness or tiredness, burning or tingling sensations, swelling, throbbing, and tender areas around the veins. If your patients experience symptoms and delay treatment, their symptoms may progress onward to more serious complications including inflammation (phlebitis), blood clots (DVT), ankle sores or skin ulcers and bleeding.

Many South Florida residents who suffer from painful varicose veins have now been offered hope with newer treatments.

In the past, severe varicose veins were treated with a surgical procedure that was done in a hospital operating room under general or spinal anesthesia.  This surgery involved ligation and stripping of the vein.  As a result, patients encountered quite a bit of pain and needed about two weeks to recover before they were able to return to normal activities.

Now, due to the latest technology, patients are able to get relief from the pain and unsightliness of varicose veins.

EndoVenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) is a proven minimally-invasive procedure performed with local anesthesia that uses a laser to seal varicose veins closed, eliminating the painful swelling that can interfere with a patient’s ability to function, providing immediate relief of symptoms. Patients have this procedure performed directly in our office, in less than an hour, which allows them to walk away immediately after the procedure with little or no discomfort and no scarring.
Patients are able to resume normal activities immediately and go back to work the next day.
